Welcome home!

Get your piece of poetry, fiction, and personal essays read on air and published on our website. First place gets $100!

The theme of our writing contest this fall is “Welcome Home to Peace and Justice,” so all writing submissions must relate to that theme.

Submissions must be emailed to kpftwritingcontest@kpft.org by midnight CST on Dec. 31, 2018.

Contest Rules:

  • $10 entry fee for each submission, or $35 to enter and become a member of KPFT (fees will be added by Eventbrite)
  • Short story or poem, no more than 2,000 words, somehow related to the theme of “Welcome Home to Peace and Justice”
  • Deadline December 31st, announcements by mid-January
  • First round judges made of three Local Station Board members, Final judge (of top ten pieces) a published author in Houston (TBA)
  • First place: $100 and piece read on air and published on kpft.org; Two other finalists: pieces read on air and published on kpft.org
  • LSB and Development Committee members are ineligible for this contest
  • SUBMISSIONS MUST BE EMAILED TO kpftwritingcontest@kpft.org by midnight CST on December 31, 2018

Entries will be judged by members of the KPFT Local Station Board and then by a local published Houston author. Poetry, fiction, and personal essays are welcome.

KPFT 90.1 FM is the Houston Pacifica station for peace and justice, showcasing independent music and news programming. This fall, KPFT is sponsoring a writing contest for Houston-area community members.
