KPFT 90.1 FM is the Houston Pacifica station for peace and justice, showcasing independent music and news programming. This fall, KPFT is sponsoring a writing contest for Houston-area community members. Entries will be judged by members of the KPFT Local Station Board and then by a local published Houston author. Poetry, fiction, and personal essays are welcome. The theme of our contest this fall is “Welcome Home to Peace and Justice.” Please submit pieces that somehow tie in to any part or interpretation of that theme.

Contest Rules:

-$10 entry fee for each submission, or $25 to enter and become a member of KPFT (fees will be added by Eventbrite)
-Short story or poem, no more than 2,000 words, somehow related to the theme of “Welcome Home to Peace and Justice”
-Deadline December 1st, announcements by mid-December
-First round judges made of three Local Station Board members, Final judge (of top ten pieces) a published author in Houston (TBA)
-First place: $100 and piece read on air and published on kpft.org; Two other finalists: pieces read on air and published on kpft.org
-LSB and Development Committee members are ineligible for this contest

-SUBMISSIONS SHOULD BE EMAILED TO kpftwritingcontest@kpft.org by midnight CST on December 1st.
