Community Partnerships

KPFT offers a variety of Community Partnership opportunities for local businesses and non-profit organizations to support public radio.

Contributions from listeners are a major source of revenue for the station. Community Partnerships from the business and non-profit communities are important. They enable KPFT to produce and broadcast programming we could not otherwise provide.

KPFT’s Community Partnerships help support music, culture and arts vital to the region. In addition, KPFT offers an eclectic. diverse audience. On-air and online options for Community Partnerships are available. They help build relationships with the community of KPFT listeners.

KPFT’s Audience

KPFT attracts a unique audience. Over one-third of our listeners are 44 years old or under. In addition, KPFT has a strong concentration of 18-54 year olds. A majority of our listeners are women.

Through supporting KPFT, your business or organization can reach this valuable audience. Community Partnerships or sponsorship of one of KPFT’s special events yield results.

For more information regarding Community Partnerships, please call (713) 526-4000 x315 or email partner@kpft.org.

Donate a Vehicle

imagesSupport KPFT by donating your unwanted vehicle.

No matter if it is a car, motorcycle, boat or RV. When you make a donation, your vehicle is resold at auto auction and the proceeds help to support KPFT programming.

To donate your vehicle to KPFT, call 1-855-KPFT-CAR (1-855-573-8227).

Does my car have to be running?

Not always. It does have to have an engine and be towable. It varies from state to state and depends upon the year, make, and model of the vehicle. Sometimes if the cost to transport a vehicle will cost more than what it will bring at auction, it may be declined. Call our toll free line to find out if your vehicle qualifies.

Does my car have to be registered?

No, but you must be the legal titleholder.

What if I lost the title?

You must obtain the title prior to donating it. Contact your local DMV to obtain a duplicate title.

Where do I sign my title?

Our driver will instruct you of the proper place to sign your title. You may have to sign a power of attorney authorizing us to transfer it. Our driver will let you know what is required or call our toll free number (1-855-573-8227) to speak to our representative.

What kind of paperwork will I receive?

You will receive a tow receipt when the vehicle is picked up. Thirty days after the vehicle is sold, you will receive an acknowledgement. If your vehicle sells for over $500 you will receive IRS Form 1098 B & C.

How much can I take for my donation?

Effective 2005, if the value of the vehicle is over $500, the taxpayer is limited to deduct the amount for which the vehicle sold. In such a case you will receive a Form 1098 B & C within 30 days of sale. If the vehicle sells for under $500 you will not receive IRS forms as you are not required to file them for vehicle donations up to $500. Please consult your tax advisor to determine your benefit or for additional information, (visit the IRS website) at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-05-44.pdf.

What will happen to my vehicle?

Your vehicle will be picked up by one of our courteous drivers and sold at auction. Cars are usually sold within 30 days of pick up. Some vehicles may take longer.

Is there a tow fee?

No. If you are out of our towing range, we can offer you the option to drop the vehicle off at our auction house at your convenience.

Are all cars sold at auction?

No. Occasionally, cars that are donated do not sell at auction. In those cases, the vehicles are sold for scrap metal.

Will I be notified when it sells?

Yes. If the vehicle sells for over $500 you will receive IRS Form 1098 B & C. If not, you will simply receive an acknowledgement as required by the IRS.

How soon can my vehicle be picked up?

Vehicles are picked up at a time that is convenient for you. Our representative will take all pertinent information regarding your donation, and forward it to our tow company. They will call you within 24 hours to set up an appointment. If you have not been called within 24 hours, please call 855-411-3662.

What vehicle do you accept?

We take cars, boats (if they are on a trailer), motor homes, trucks, motorcycles (if they are operational), farm equipment, and recreational vehicles such as snowmobiles, jet ski, etc.) Call our representative to find out if your vehicle qualifies.

Why Donate?

There are several great reasons:

  1. You don’t want to worry about selling your vehicle.
  2. It’s too expensive to repair your vehicle.
  3. You don’t trust your car to be safe on the road.
  4. You need a tax write-off.

BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON IS THAT YOUR DONATION WILL HELP KPFT CONTINUE TO BRING YOU THE NEWS, TALK AND MUSIC THAT YOU VALUE AND ENJOY!

Sustaining Membership

Many KPFT members make sustaining donations.

These kinds of membership are ongoing, monthly contributions to support community inspired public radio. These listeners are sustaining members. These sustaining member contributions help KPFT to reduce membership drive days.

How do sustaining memberships help?

Sustaining memberships help KPFT manage its cash flow. When regular monthly revenue comes in, the number of days the radio station spends in on-air fundraising campaigns goes down. These monthly donations also save on mailing costs.

When you are a sustaining member, you also keep your mailbox free of renewal requests. As a sustaining member, your donation is made on an ongoing basis until you tell us otherwise.

There are a couple of ways to become a sustaining member:

You can become a sustaining member by a direct monthly transfer of funds from your checking or savings account to KPFT. Call us at (713) 526-4000 x314 and our membership coordinator will be happy to explain the options in detail.

You can also set up a sustaining membership via credit card. This is a preferred option for some listener-members and easy to do at our pledge page. Thank you for your support of 90.1 KPFT

Donate Stock

sharesWhen you donate stock to 90.1 KPFT, you get double the tax savings.

First, you avoid paying capital-gains tax on the increase in value of your stock. In addition, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift.

Subtracting the tax savings from what you originally paid for the stock can result in a gift that costs just pennies on the dollar. This is an excellent vehicle for stock that has appreciated substantially in value.

A gift of stock also brings with it KPFT membership, with benefit levels corresponding to the amount of the gift.

How to Give Stock to KPFT

Planned Giving

Many donors make a planned gift to 90.1 KPFT.

Some contributors support KPFT regularly or irregularly, but want to include KPFT in bequests. All of generous supporters help KPFT’s non-profit mission. They do so through a variety of options.

Some of these financial options include:
  • Donating a portion from one’s estate
  • Naming KPFT a beneficiary of a retirement account
  • Naming KPFT a beneficiary of a life insurance policy
  • Establishing a charitable remainder
  • Establishing a lead trust

These sort of contributions ensure the radio station remains a strong voice in Houston and Southeast Texas for years to come.
