KPFT is broadcasting from Galveston on 89.5FM

Today’s good news…

89.5 KPFT Galveston is up and running!  Our HD1 FM signal is now repeated on 89.5 FM on the island.   The 100w signal serves an area From around 51st and Seawall to the cruise terminal and Harborside and 51st.

Thanks to Howard Reynolds’s, Bill Crosier, Moe Thomas, Jon Ameleh, Stuart Nance and the staff of  the Bryan Museum for the quick and safe installation of the broadcast gear.   A small area of the climate controlled attic provides a home for our transmitter.

The December issue of Galveston’s Waves Magazine will be covering this welcome news.

KPFT Memory Brick News

We’ve got it confirmed that the first batch of Memory Bricks will be delivered between October 16 and 20. We’re working to get the ground ready for installing them and will keep you abreast of all progress towards this project.

If you ordered a Memory Brick but have not yet let us know what you want inscribed, please email member@kpft.org with your inscription or call 713-526-4000 ext 4 to discuss. The 4″x8″ bricks can accommodate 4 lines of 21 characters each (84 characters total). The 8″x8″ bricks can accommodate 8 lines of 21 characters each (168 characters total).

There’s still plenty of room for more, so there’s time yet for making your $25/month donation (for the small brick) or $50/month donation (for the large brick).

Reserve your place in the growing KPFT Brick Garden by hitting that “Donate” button, or calling 713-526-5738 Option 1, and becoming a Sustainer member.

Backpacks at 5th Ward Head Start

During our recent Summer Sizzle, KPFT partnered with 5th Ward Head Start to donate backpacks to them for the start of school. For every $1,000 pledged during that drive , KPFT donated a backpack with school supplies, socks & underwear to the program. So far the station has distributed 34 of these.

KPFT staff visited 5th Ward Head Start on August 28, and here’s a video of the incredibly cute kids receiving their backpacks.

KPFT is adding Sustaining Members every day. Will you be one of them?

Sustainers are people who donate monthly to the station until they tell the station to stop it. There are currently about 700 sustainers at KPFT donating at many different monthly levels. Their support has gotten the station thru some hard times. If you join their number and if we can get that number closer to 1,000 the station will be on much more firm footing and also will have the option of shortening the fund drives and also decreasing their number.

This May Membership Drive has moved 85 people to become sustaining members at various levels and 28 of these people are getting Memory Brick. You can Donate Buttonat whatever level you desire, and we encourage you to turn your donation into a sustainer pledge. $5 a month, $10 a month or whatever level you are comfortable with.

Memory Brick sample inscribedAnd if you sign up for a $25 per month donation you can get the 4″x8″ brick (a sample is pictured here) or $50 per month for a 8″x8″ brick. You get to inscribe the brick you choose with any inscription you want and your brick will be laid in the front plaza at KPFT this summer.

So donate what you can to keep the station going. If you’re in a position to become a sustainer please do that at whatever level you’re comfortable at. And if you’re comfortable with a $25 per month or more donation, get yourself a Memory Brick and let the station feature your generosity in physical form.
